State of the Union Address

Tonight, President Bush will give his annual address to the nation at 9PM. While I will not live-blog the event, Blogs4Bush will. They will have a transcript of the speech after it is over.

Enjoy the President's speech. I will probably be doing my college homework.

Ladies and Gentlemen...

I now introduce to you, the 110th Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States,
Associate Justice Samuel Alito. He was formally sworn in by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts. He will join the other eight Justices for tonight's State of the Union address.

Associate Justice Alito was confirmed by 58-42 party line vote. It is sad that Alito, probably the most qualified judge to serve on the high court, had the vote like this, unlike the former ACLU lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg who got about 98 "Yea" votes. Sadly, partisan politics overrule qualified judges.

Hopefully, the country will move on from the vile partisanship of this and come together to better this country.

One Down, One to Go.

3rd Circuit Judge, and Supreme Court nominee, Samuel Alito passed the Judiciary committee by a party line vote of 10-8. The Senate will be debatting his nomination tomorrow, and, hopefully, have a vote by the end of the week, unless the Liberals have their way.

It is sad to see a well-qualified judge not get a full "Yes" vote from the committee based on partisan politics. Judge Alito should get over 90 votes, but there will the the Liberals who will oppose him no matter what.

They say that Alito is out of the "mainstream". What they really mean is that he does not conform to the Liberal mindset of rulings based on feelings and legislating from the bench.

Judge Alito will be confirmed to sit on the high court, no doubt. But, the Liberals in the Senate will make sure to tarnish his name and President Bush before that will happen.

What is going on here?

For those that have noticed, yes it looks messed up here. I made it like that. Just fiddling with the template and such. Hopefully, when I'm done, I'll like what I have done, and maybe you will to.

The things I would like to do is:

replace the background dots that they have;
make all the text contrast with the background;
add some images to the sidebar;
add some sort of special effects;
remove dead links and add some new ones;
and alphabetize the links.

Some of these will be easy, just add or remove the HTML tags and such. Others, not so. I may add others to this list. I'll update accordingly.

UPDATE: Finished with the modifying. I might change some things around later on, but overall, I'm happy with it.

Dang it.

Just found out that Blogger does not support TrackBacks (yeah, I know, too slow to have figured it out). So right now, I am looking for a free blogging service that will host TrackBacks. I'll still post here until I can find one and figure it all out. So, until then, enjoy this blog.

Ted Kennedy: "Alito's record troubles me deeply."

You wanna know why Judge Alito's record is so disturbing to Senator Kennedy-or to the Liberals for that matter-is that Alito does not follow the ACLU-style of judging. Alito believes in judicial restriant, which in today's judicial world, is absolutely necessary to prevent judges from imposing their twisted view onto America.

Judge Alito looks at the laws and facts of the cases that had came before him, and he judges accordionly. If the facts of the case says that something illegal has been done, he'll say so and rule as such. If there is no law broken, then he will rule so.

Judge Alito will be a fine addition to the Supreme Court of the United States. He'll look at every case with an open mind and judge the case based on facts and law, not what he feels.

The Samuel Alito Confirmation Hearings

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee begins the hearings to question SC nominee Samuel Alito for the post being vacated be retiring Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Today, the members of the committee are giving their opening statements, and then Judge Alito will give his. The questioning will start tomorrow, I believe.

I am not gonna do any of the live-blogging stuff others are doing, so you're gonna have to go to another blog for it or listen to CSPAN (I think) or something like that. One blog that is following the hearings is Blogs4Bush. They would probably be posting transcripts of the statements and exchanges and such.

Here's hoping the Liberals don't try to hijack this to make it a circus and slander both Alito and the President, as well as other conservatives.

A Miracle amongst A Tragedy

Today, at around 3:00 AM EST, it has been confirmed that 12 of the 13 miners, who were trapped in their mine after an explosion, had been found dead, contrary to earlier reports. Only one miner, Randal McCloy, survived the ordeal.

At 12 AM EST, word leaked out that rescue workers had found 12 of the 13 alive. Earlier at 9 PM EST, reports came in that one body was found.

This is a national tragedy. I found out about the discovery at about 6:30 AM EST. I hoped that they would be found alive, but a part of me knew otherwise.

The sole survivor is a miracle. Over 40 hours since the beginning of this event, in the cold. His youth (he is about 27, the youngest of the 13) is probably what saved him, as well as his training. He will be a vital part in the investigation into what happened there.

Right now, this is not the time to point fingers and assess blame. Let the investigation play out, the findings published, then we can look back and say who is at fault, if at all. This may be just a freak accident that may or may not have happened if safety precautions were in place.

May God bless and comfort the souls of the deceased, their families, the rescue workers who made the discoveries, and to all of the other miners around the globe.
